Effects of Polysulphate Fertilizer on Several Crops on Degraded Soil in Northern Vietnam

The study aimed to evaluate the effects of potassium (K) and polysulphate [K2Ca2Mg(SO4)4·2H2O] rates on maize and cabbage to find out optimum fertilizer dose for the crops on degraded soil in Northern Vietnam. Six fertilizer doses treatments were tested: CT1 (Farmers’ practice control) with N : P2O5 : K2O ratio of 180 : 90 : 120 for maize and 180 : 90 : 150 for cabbage; CT2 (NP-K0) with 180 kg N ha-1, 90 kg P2O5 ha-1 for maize and 80 kg P2O5 ha-1 for cabbage, and zero K; CT3 (NP-K60); CT4 (NP-K60-S50); CT5 (NP-K90-S75); and CT6 (NP-K120-S100); all of which were applied with similar N, P rates (180 kg N and 90 kg P2O5 for maize, and 180 kg N and 80 kg P2O5 for cabbage). K rate increased from 60 to 120 kg K2O ha-1, and polysulphate of 214 (S50), 321 (S75) and 428 kg ha-1 (S100). The optimum treatment was achieved with NP-K90-S75, which resulted in increasing both cabbage and maize yield 10 - 12% and increased the profit of 3.5 million VND ha-1 for maize and 11.7 million VND ha-1 for cabbage more than that of CT1 (Farmers’ practice control).
