Background:

• Saurashtra region contributes 85% of oil seeds production of Gujarat State
• Groundnut productivity is very low (1,200 kg ha^-1), mainly due to continuous monocropping since last 60 years leading to a severe decrease in soil fertility
• The contention that the soils of Saurashtra are high in available potassium and groundnut in this region needs no K fertilization has done more harm than good since last 30 years – groundnut responds to K applications

Objectives:

• To study the field response of groundnut to potassium application
• To assess the long-term soil fertility management through balanced fertilization for sustainable yields of groundnut- based cropping systems
• To screen the effect of balanced nutrients supply on the productivity and sustainability of an intensive farming on a long term basis
