Proceedings of the IPI regional workshop on Food security in the WANA region

* Proceedings of the Regional IPI Workshop on "Food security in the WANA region, the essential need for balanced fertilization" (Ed. A.E. Johnston), held in coope-ration with the Ege University at Bornova, Izmir, Turkey, 26-30 May 1997.

The Workshop brought together scientists from 11 countries of the WANA region to report on the K status in the soils and crops of their home country. Another session dealt with the effect of nutrition on crop quality in recognition of the demands of the market. Papers on potassium and stress relief referred to the particular growth conditions that cultivated plants are exposed to in the WANA region.

* Three new leaflets in the languages of the CEE and FSU have been issued: Sugarbeet in Hungarian by K. Debreczeni, Cereals in Polish by R. Czuba, and in Russian a leaflet on Crop fertilization in Middle Ural by V. Prokoshev.

* Special publications for CEE have been prepared on behalf of IPI by I.Kadar on the "Importance of potassium for Hungary", on "Balanced fertilization on sandy soils in Hungary"-both in Hungarian, and by S.Torma on "Potassium - an important nutrient in soils and plants" in Slovakian.
